PREPARE4VBD annual meeting Uganda 2025
The EU Horizon2020 RIA Project, A Cross-Disciplinary Alliance to Predict and Prepare for Emerging Vector-borne Diseases (PREPARE4VBD), successfully held their final Consortium meeting and Stakeholder Engagement on May 5th to 8th, 2025 in Entebbe, Uganda.

The EU Horizon2020 RIA Project, A Cross-Disciplinary Alliance to Predict and Prepare for Emerging Vector-borne Diseases (PREPARE4VBD), successfully held their final Consortium meeting and Stakeholder Engagement on May 5th to 8th, 2025 in Entebbe, Uganda.
The 10-partner project, coordinated by Associate Professor Anna-Sofie Stensgaard (Department for Veterinary and Animal Sciences (IVH), UCPH), focus on understanding and predicting the spread of zoonotic tick- snail- and mosquito-borne diseases in Africa as well as in Europe under climate change, by developing new sensitive diagnostic tools and early warning systems for vector-borne disease surveillance.
The meeting was hosted by Ugandan partners Makerere University and Vector Control Division, Ministry of Health Uganda, and included stakeholder events marking the culmination of a four-year, cross-continental research effort addressing increasing challenges with vector-borne diseases globally from a One Health perspective. All 10 Consortium partners delivered key messages from the project results to participating representatives from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture in Uganda, amongst others the Commissioner for Epidemiology Surveillance and Public Health Emergencies, Dr. Allan Muruta, who pledged to integrate the tools and findings from the PREPARE4VBD project into Uganda’s national disease surveillance systems to strengthen the capacity for detection and responding to vector-borne disease outbreaks.
