Our research focus on zoonotic bacterial pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, and food quality and safety.
Section for Bacteria and Viruses
Our goal is to enhance the understanding of bacteria and viruses of veterinary importance for their ability to infect animals and via colonization be transmitted to humans through food and the environment in a One Health perspective. We elucidate mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and explore innovative alternatives to antibiotics as well as develop veterinary diagnostics and advance vaccine innovation. Our research applies genetic, genomic, metagenomic and in vivo experimental approaches and also covers food safety, poultry diseases, as well as transmission and pathogenesis of serious zoonotic viruses including avian and swine influenza. Furthermore, we support the national veterinary contingency program by providing advice and research-based knowledge on topics such as influenza, antimicrobial resistance, and veterinary hygiene.
