Annual AIV field trip went to Amager Fælled
In May 2024, the AIV epidemiology group went to Amager Fælled.
Our Guide Sven Norup from Naturcenter Amager took us for a fantastic bike tour around the beautiful island to see Barnacle geese, greylag geese, mallards, swans, cormorants, lapwings, pied avocets, many more waders and a white-tailed eagle.
During our visit, we discussed historical and current challenges of population management, considerations for human visitors, birdlife in general and migration flights near Copenhagen Airport. Additionally, we gained insight into a case of avian influenza at Amager Fælled, particularly affecting geese species.
