On 4 October 2024, the Avian Influenza Epidemiology group at UCPH hosted an online seminar, “Nordfugl 2024”, with the aim of exchanging information on research and surveillance of avian influenza between the Nordic countries.

The seminar included participants from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Faroe Islands, Iceland and Denmark. Surveillance activities and research studies were presented from Denmark, Faroe Islands, Norway, Sweden and Iceland. Avian influenza is a continuous challenge in the Nordic countries in both wild birds and poultry. This was reflected in the focus on surveillance across countries in a large variety of wild birds as well as in poultry farms.

Numerous research studies were presented with focus on identifying risk factors for outbreaks in poultry, detection of disease in wild birds and mammals, and estimating the spatiotemporal risk for outbreaks.
