Young Researchers at the 11th International Symposium on Avian Influenza in Canada

From June 24 to 26, the 11th International Symposium on Avian Influenza took place in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, gathering leading scientists, veterinarians, biologists, medical researchers, and government regulators from around the world. The symposium served as a platform for sharing the latest scientific insights and fostering international collaboration on avian influenza across domestic animals, wildlife, and human health.
Helene Jensen, Yangfan Liu, and Sandra Carapeto had the opportunity to participate through oral presentations:
Sandra Carapeto presented her work titled “A Simulation Model for Evaluating Optimal Strategies for Vaccination and Surveillance of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry.” Sandra even won the award for the best student oral presentation at the conference.
Yangfan Liu not only chaired the session on Notable Outbreaks, Field and Molecular Epidemiology, and Surveillance in Wild Birds, but also presented her study, “Modelling Spillover Risk of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza from Wild Birds to Poultry in Denmark.”
Helene Jensen shared her findings on “Estimating Risk Factors for Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Farms in Denmark”.
The symposium was a resounding success, fostering meaningful discussions and paving the way for future collaborations.
