Workshop on Streptococcus agalactiae in the Nordic countries

Udder health researchers from Norway, Sweden and Finland were invited to Copenhagen for a workshop in the Danish project “Sikker diagnostik i B-streptokokbesætninger”.

The project is funded by the Danish Milk Levy Foundation and is a collaboration between SEGES Innovation and University of Copenhagen.

“In the project, we look into the value of the national surveillance program, the characteristics of infected herds, and the relationship between milk quality and Streptococcus agalactiae infections. We also develop a “Streptococcus agalactiae handling guide” for farmers and veterinarians. This guide includes some important questions to discuss before initiating a herd level eradication.

At the workshop we shared and discussed project results, surveillance programs and other unpublished data on Streptococcus agalactiae.

Even though the average herd size and the prevalence of farms with Streptococcus agalactiae is larger in Denmark compared to the other Nordic countries, there was a lot of interesting results and experience to share between the countries.”
