This "small private online course" (SPOC) has been developed for teachers within European health educations, including Veterinary Medicine, who construct multiple choice items and use MCQ-tests in their teaching and assessments, whether for formative or summative purposes. The SPOC has a special focus on writing, reviewing and validating test items to be used for longitudinal assessment of students as done inlinear and adaptive progress testing. This kind of testing requires special attention to item quality, item formats and psychometric analysis of item responses to ensure the location and time independent validity of test results. This SPOC will take you through the essentials of test writing: from the discussing various test-settings and pre-test requirements, over presenting common item formats to guiding good item writing, to qualitatively pre-test reviewing items and finally explaining modern psychometric analysis of items and responses. Basic concepts as construct and content validity and reliability of the test results or test scores are explained.
